Phonocratic Records

We are happy to announce the winners of the Lost Shadow remix contest! It is always hard to manage something for the first time, and since we never organised a remix contest before, we are very content about the remixes we got. A big thanks to our friends at remixcomps.com, who we think are responsible for bringing many of the remixers to our site. Also, a huge thanks to all the remixers who have put time and effort into remixing the songs, even those of you who did not send in a completed result. We know (from our own experience) how hard it is to get the remix sound good enough for sending it in.

So, let’s get down to business. Of the remixes we have received, we have chosen five which will be released on the A Nuance of Future single in March. These five winners are:

• Jason & Sander
• Shane Wittig
• stróm

Further, if we are to select one single favourite remix, we are leaning towards Jason & Sander’s remix of A Nuance of Future, but let’s just say that the choice was tough. We are aiming at a digital release of the new single on the 15 of March, and a physical release in the days after that (with online ordering possible from the same day as the digital release). The tracks went for mastering today, so I think we will be able to make without delays this time.

Along with the remixes from the contest, there will also be a new single mix of A Nuance of Future, as well as new remixes by Lost Shadow and Trance Line Project, who have done another excellent Lost Shadow rework. Once again, thanks to all who contributed to the remix contest. Stay in touch, we are open for future collaboration!

The Lost Shadow remix contest has passed its deadline, and we are very happy with the remixes we have received. An e-mail has been sent out to all participants who have remixes that are to be included on the next single. If you are a remixer and have not received any mail from us, feel free to contact us if you have questions. We will soon announce winners and provide further information about the forthcoming Lost Shadow release, which will hopefully see a digital release in early March. Stay tuned!

I just want to briefly inform everyone that the remix contest that have been running for two week is slowly approaching its end. There is one week left for everyone who want to send in their remix. The deadline will be next Saturday, however we will not be extremely strict on hours and minutes. If a good remix comes in on Sunday, we will probably let it into the contest.

And one more thing, this week we will start to e-mail candidates that might be included on the forthcoming single, to make sure we have correct liner notes for your remixes. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far!

[Update]: Sorry for the confusion, the days should of course have read Saturday and Sunday from the beginning. The contest ends at Saturday, the 20th of February. Sorry for the mistake.

At request, I will now post the chords, key signatures and bpm for the two songs in the remix contest. Please note that this is my personal chord files for the demos, so they might not be 100% “usual” chords (that is, the chords that would be normally accepted as “correct”), but I hope they can help anyway. I realised that they are in the same key (sort of), and same tempo, so a mash-up remix should be possible… someone willing to give it a try?

I promised earlier in January that there would be a remix contest. For numerous reasons, it got a bit delayed, but still I managed to get it going before the end of the month! So, here’s your chance to put your fingers on two Lost Shadow tracks: the newest single The Man Without A Shadow, or the old classic A Nuance Of Future (click here for the new version). Both these tracks can be found on Last.fm.

If you would like to have anything else (like MIDI-tracks, audio samples of instruments etc.) send me an e-mail (or comment on this post), and I will see what I can do.

And then, put them into your favourite piece of music making software and make a creation. Send you creation to: phonocratic (at sign, the one looking like a bun) gmail (dot) com
I prefer that you send you file via some kind of sharing service, in as high quality as possible (maximum quality should be CD-quality: 44.1 kHz, Stereo, 16 bit). Any normal format is okay, but AIFF, WAV, or FLAC is preferred. If you send the file attached to an e-mail, be sure to compress the file to be no larger than 10 MB, and I will get back to you so we can agree on how to send an uncompressed version of the remix.

And then what? If you submit your remix before or around the 20 of February, there is a great chance that it gets included on the next Lost Shadow single. As many serious remixes as possible will be put on the CD, with the rest released digitally. If included, you will receive a physical copy of the single. And what about rights? See the bottom of this post.

While I personally think that Trance Line Project did a great job with their remix of The Man Without A Shadow, I am fully convinced that there are other people out there that can do equally good, or better. Or why not give A Nuance Of Future a new, sexier sound?

Terms and Conditions
- By sending in the remix to Phonocratic Records, you agree to give us non-exclusive rights to distribute and sell your remix, worldwide. These rights cannot be taken back without renegotiating these terms with Phonocratic Records.
- The remixer(s) will not receive any payments or compensation for sales through Phonocratic Records related to their remixes.
- All rights for the original songs, and the vocal samples remain the property of Phonocratic Records and/or Johan Bengtsson. You will not get the right to sell or redistribute the original songs or the vocal samples.
- The remixer(s) retain the rights to distribute their own remix of the song. When the remix is distributed, credit for song writing, recording, and original production must be given as stated by Phonocratic Records (see below).
- Given that all the requirements above are fulfilled, Phonocratic Records and/or Johan Bengtsson will not ask for compensation for earnings made by the remixer(s) for the remixes submitted for this contest.
