Little London

truths_small(Johan Bengtsson)

It’s the first early morning
After election day
Little London’s waking
Under a sky feeling grey
Everything is uncertain
But it all stays the same
Good bye mister Drizzle
And hello mister Rain
Even though it never seemed
As unlikely as my presence
In this city in the west
I’m still confused

I take the tram from the suburbs
Passing bridges and graves
Little London’s smiling
To the ones that she saved
Then past crossways and chapels
Watching over the rails
The bum with his bottles
And the grocery sales
Even though it never was
A place of my invention
That is still the way it feels
When I’m with you

And we both know that September
Is not as easy as July
And we both know why
And we both know what we’re saying
Despite this conventional cliché
Is not a lie
And we both know why

You’re in my mind
When I’m walking through my town
Waiting for our paths to collide
Walk by my side
Through Little London tonight

We’re heading back to the station
Down past Avenue lights
Little London’s glittering
Reflecting all of its pride
Then the tram back to your place
Just to see if we might
Catch the view from your window
A city fighting the night
Even though I never felt
As uneasy as I could do
When I’m falling into this city
I’m confused
I’m doing all this for you
It is all I can do
