A fantastic arrangement
Peter Gabriel’s cover of David Bowie’s song Heroes may feature one of the best string arrangements I have ever heard. A combination of all the things I like, raising string lines, low bass lines and a minimalistic pattern a la Steve Reich – perfect. You can listen to it at Peter Gabriel’s web site.
Also, in a brief note, the voting for the Laurie Anderson remix contest has ended. I ended up on a 123rd place, which probably is what to expect from such an alternative mix. Now all hope is for the jury to appreciate it. Their picks will be announced on the 17th of June.
Two more days to vote
Voting is still open for the Laurie Anderson remix contest. But only for two days more! If you have not already voted for Lost Shadow’s remix, there is still a chance. Take it. Voting closes on 27th of May. All help is still appreciated.
Studio time
I have had a fantastic week in the studio, finishing four songs for the new album, due for release this Autumn, as well as completing a Laurie Anderson remix (voting is still open). If my voice permits (I have had a terrible cold for more than two weeks, that ruined all voice recording attempts) I will record vocals for the new single, which will be released in June. More news on that soon.
Time to vote!
It is time to vote for your favourite Laurie Anderson remixes over at Indaba. I, of course, would like as many as possible to vote for Lost Shadow’s remix, but I cannot force you, and there are many good entries. You can see them all here, or vote for Lost Shadow’s submission here. Voting is open until the 27th of May. All help is appreciated.
Laurie Anderson Remix
I have submitted a very alternative remix of Laurie Anderson’s “Only An Expert” to her remix contest run at Ibdaba Music. If you’re into really alternative, arty, electronic music, please listen to it (and the rest of Laurie’s production also of course). She is an extremely talented artist, both musically and lyrically. I comment on it over at Indaba:
As usual when you want to investigate a system, you tear it down to its smallest parts and then reconstruct it to create a representative model, which will, if you’re in luck, tell you what you need to know about the system…
The remix was created using a technique I will use and describe more in detail later, in a coming art project (probably not under the Lost Shadow name, though).
